A Visit to Georgetown Cupcake

So, who doesn't love cupcakes? Actually, I have a friend who doesn't. And I find her weird. Anyway, MOST people love biting into the moist, crumby, flavorful heaven that is a good cupcake. Note the word good. I have had many, many cupcakes. And I don't care what anyone tells me: Magnolia Cupcakes taste like poo. They are just not good! The cupcake itself is dry and dense and the frosting is like sugarfest 2008. I don't mean to pick on Magnolia, I just think many people's ideas about cupcakes are...well...WRONG.

One place I am willing to advocate is Georgetown Cupcake. I mean, I've had equally good, if not better, cupcakes at Sticky Fingers, a delicious vegan bakery in Columbia Heights, but Georgetown Cupcake is great too. Especially because of it's convenient location smack dab in the middle of Georgetown (a great neighborhood in DC for shopping, if you've never been), farther away from all the franchises and closer to the cool second-hand stores. Sadiqeh and I took Jero, who's visiting from the Netherlands, there last week for some great shopping (we're envious of how lucky he is going from euros to dollars...damn you bad economy!) and great cupcakes. Amongst the three of us, the flavors we got were chocolate coconut, red velvet, vanilla on chocolate, and lemon berry. There's nothing better than taking a break from all your strenuous shopping, plopping down on a stoop, and enjoying some delicious cupcakes! Also, in the spirit of giving credit where credit is due, several of these, including the gorgeous last one, were photographed by Sadiqeh.

Thanks for the warning against Magnolia! Ha ha ha. Isn't it kind of a rite of passage? I doubt it tastes like, you know, poo, though :P

I didn't fall for the recent cupcake craze here, but I think the reason so many mediocre ones get by is because people have forgotten what good cake tastes like. In the first place, they're not very interested in cake but when it's in a single-serve, it suddenly becomes magical. Not so. Which is why I love making cake from scratch, to really surprise people on how good cake can actually be!

excellent pictures! cupcakes are so fun, the pictures match them perfectly. :) and manggy you're right, people see a cupcake and they think it's gonna be great. and especially when its got pretty icing it's deceiving.

but georgetown cupcake is a definite yes! they're good because of the rich flavor, the amount of sweetness and presentation. each of those done well. they don't do crazy flavors, but the flavors they do have by no means boring. i just love them. magnolia can not compare.

Hello darling, I completely agree with you on Georgetown Cupcakes.
The firm I worked for this summer had a thank-you/goodbye celebration for the interns and got Gtown Cupcakes to deliver to us. I had the red velvet, which is always amazing, but this was just beyond. Though... I think the icing is a little intense, but I love it anyways.
I really want to go visit the store and try some of their more unusual flavors, especially those seasonal ones.

A friend of mine was just telling me about this place the other day saying that we had to go. I had never heard of it but it looks absolutely DEE-LISH. Two recommendations in a week -- it's a must!

Georgetown Cupcake is always a winner.. thank goodness the lines have died down so you have a more realistic chance of getting at least a half dozen...
